Flights 73, 74 & 75 | Jason

September 23rd, 2007

Saturday night was a late one. Cassandra and I went to Hooter’s in downtown Indy to watch the UFC fight. It was fun. I drank too much and I subsequently got up a little late Sunday morning…. When I woke up, I hauled ass to get ready and get to the field.
When I arrived, Jeremy was hooked in and about to launch. He launched as I was just getting parked and getting my stuff out. He signaled that he was going to head south. I knew he was going to head out toward the R/C field to look for the plane again. I got set up with the borrowed Muse as quickly as I could and I got launched, 1st try. This Muse is really easy to launch.

It seemed like it took me forever to make it over to the R/C field, and it’s not that far. Actually, I didn’t even make it close to the R/C field. There was a lot of wind 100′ up and it was pretty bumpy. I was almost parked, just barely moving. “Shit, this is going to suck…”

Jeremy ended up coming back toward me… it looked like he may not have made it to the R/C/ field, either. The R/C/ field was upwind, and it was so slow moving and bumpy.
Jeremy got a wise idea and climbed up higher, and I followed. There was a certain point where it suddenly got warmer and the air got really smooth. KICK ASS! We still weren’t moving very fast, but it was much better and very smooth. We just enjoyed the sights up high. Jeremy waved to my camera:

Then he got out his camera:

We took pictures of each other taking each others’ pictures…. lol

We got really close to each other. I was flying with my little 18-55mm lens… no real zoom to speak of. Jeremy’s camera pulled me in pretty good!

After about an hour and 10 minutes of super awesome high flying, Jeremy was getting low on gas, so we headed in. We landed and BS’ed for a bit. There was a spectator waiting for us at the field when we got there. We talked to him for a while, then when he left we decided we’d fly again. I gave Jeremy the end of the gas I had in my portable tank so he could join me. It was a good chance to practice my reverse technique. I had no trouble making a nice reverse launch. Surprisingly enough, it was still decent, and it was almost 11:00 AM!!! That’s pretty crazy. Jeremy and I flew over to the same field for a re-visit of yesterday’s carving session. It was great fun! When we landed, I decided I wanted to go yet again. It was now after 11:00 AM, and the wind was more consistent than it had been. I did another reverse, and this time I came around and did my first touch-and-go. Sweet! What a great morning of flying!

Here’s a parting shot of me on the Muse, courtesy of Jeremy:
