Flights 78, 79, & 80 | Jason
Saturday we went out to dinner for our 2 year anniversary which was coming up on Monday. It turned out to be a pretty late night, so getting up Sunday morning wasn’t easy. Mike W. had been waiting on me for a while when I got to the field after 8:00 am. It looked like we were in for a repeat of Saturday morning…. the wind was already kicking up pretty good.
Ola and Faith arrived while I was getting set up. Ola said he’d wait for me to fly and give a report on the conditions before he would even get his stuff out. Faith looked sleepy… I’ve never seen her at the field for a morning flight!
So it looked like it was my turn to be the air dummy.. the guinea pig. No problem. I was going to at least make a short flight since I was there. I did an easy reverse, did a couple laps, then came by for a touch and go. That went well. I did another couple laps and landed. The air was crappy. I only flew for about 10 mintues. Ola and Faith went ahead and just went back home, probably to crawl back into bed. Mike did some kiting, but decided not to fly. I kited for a while and then decided to fly again. I blew one reverse attempt, then did well on my next one. While I was up, I saw Brandon and another pilot arrive. They both started getting out equipment, so I guess they were going to fly. Who’s that other guy?? It was Paul A. from Dayton, Ohio! I met him at the Boyer fly-in, and then again at Dave Purdin’s fly-in. He’s cool. I landed to say “hi”.
I guess I had missed the posts about Paul being in town. He came in for the weekend, but hadn’t gotten to fly yet due to motor problems. He was still having motor trouble. Brandon and him worked on the carburetor for a while. Then they got it running and Brandon took off. Paul decided not to fly. I decided a 3rd flight sounded like fun, so I took off and joined Brandon for some crummy air flying. This time I did a stylish run-into-foot drag launch. I came by and did a touch and go and a foot drag during my flight, too. It’s not too hard when it’s that windy and you aren’t moving very fast. It’s a little scarier when there’s no wind and you come in HOT.
I never took my camera up today because I knew I’d have to be busy on the toggles to keep the wing above me… too busy to jack with a camera.
Brandon and I landed after a short while and talked about the “not so glassy” air. We called it “broken glass” or “leaded glass”.
Brandon then tried out Paul’s MuseII 28. When he came down, I told him he might have more penetration with a small wing, so I let him fly my Paratoys 25. Here’s a shot of Brandon coming in on my wing. Remember when I chopped my glider up 33 flights ago? I never did show you the repair, so I zoomed in on it for you:

After the flying was all done and the gear was packed away, Mike told skydiving stories to Paul and Brandon. I had heard a couple of them on Saturday morning so I snuck off and took pictures of bugs around the field with my new macro lens:

Time to go home, get some lunch, and gear up for the Colts game!
