Sunday morning, 10-14-07:

I got up late this morning and headed to the field in a hurry. Matt was already there waiting on me. When I got to the field, Matt had one of his backup wings out. His main wing got damaged in a mishap the other day, so he got these two backup wings out of storage. The first one had been wet, and it was covered in moldy mildew. What a shame! We got out his other wing, and it was in good shape. He practiced kiting while I got set up and got into the air for a test drive. It was already fairly windy this morning. I did a reverse and cruised around for a bit. Up high it was pretty much a parking lot. Down low the gusts made it less fun, but it was quite workable. I flew for about 10 or 15 minutes and then landed to give Matt my report. We inspected that old glider quite a bit more and we determined that it’s a 10 year old DHV 2-3 glider. Ummm… probably not very safe to fly… especially today. It’s probably best to leave that wing as a ground handling wing only. Unfortunately, Matt wouldn’t get to fly today. Phil got there and got set up:

I took pictures of Phil’s launch and then I took off again. It’s so easy to launch when the wind is this strong! I figured I’d take advantage of the ability to fly so slowly…. so I did a ton of touch-and-goes and some awesome foot dragging, too! I did another full landing, took a break, and made one more flight for another 3 flight day. If I was counting touch and goes as flights, I would have gotten close to my 100 today. Maybe next weekend!
